There is a tendency foremployers to focusmore on a potential employee’sdegree certificationinstead oftheirpersonal experiences and character.Thisessay shall explore the reason forthis,along withgiving my view that,thoughqualifications are important, theyshould nottake precedence overother ways tomeasurea potential hire’ssuitability fora position.

The main reason forany organization toprioritizeacademic qualifications over other factorsmainly stems fromthe notion that certificationensuresapplicantshave the basics required fortheposition.This meanseducational qualifications arethe criteria formeasuringwhetherapplicants have been taught thetheoretical knowledgeneeded forthe job andwhether theyhave obtaineda certaincompetency.Since everyorganization has certainfinancial obligations,be itstriving for profitormeeting a budget, capabilitiesthatapotentialemployee can bring to the groupcan be ofgreat significance, otherwisethe group may need toexpend funds ontraining, or worse, paying forthe cost of ineptitude.Hence,academic qualifications can helpsafeguard againstfinancial resources being wasted ona new recruit.

Despitethe fact thatacademic qualifications are basic elementswhenconsideringwhetherapplicantspossess the wherewithal todo their jobs, itcan becounterproductive to underestimatea candidate’s life experience and personalitytraits. Rich experience, for instance, can allow onethe capacity to communicatewithothersfrom diverse backgroundsortooperate under enormous pressure, both of whichcan be criticalin terms ofbuildinga friendly workplaceandpreventing poor moraleamong employees.Likewise,overlookingnegative personal qualities, such asrecruiting stafflacking a moral compass, can bringpotential risksto any organization, no matter theiracademic qualifications.Thus, whilequalifications frompost-secondary institutionscan beinvaluable formeasuring a person’ssuitability fora position, itshould by no means bethe onlyrubric.

In conclusion,althoughan applicant,vettedthrough theireducational background,cantheoreticallyensure they arecapable of accomplishingwork tasks, I believe thatprioritizingthis element over other aspects, such as experience and character, can bedetrimentalto the group, and as such, itis adeleteriousdevelopment.
